Final Fantasy 14 ARR

The Introduction

The original Final Fantasy XIV was released in September 2010 to largely negative reviews. As a result of this poor feedback, then-Square Enix President Yoichi Wada announced that a new team, led by Yoshida, would take over development of the title. This team was responsible for generating content for the original version as well as developing a brand new game which would address all of the previous release's criticisms. Initially dubbed "Version 2.0", Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn features a new engine, improved server structures, revamped gameplay and interface, and a new story. The fourth and final beta test concluded on August 19, 2013. Early access for preorders and players with Legacy status began on August 24.

The Story

A few noble adventurers were spared destruction however, and now 5 years have passed since that fateful day. People picking up the game will start at this point, 5 years after the events of the original, entering the world as a fresh new adventurer trying to make their mark on Eorzea.

The New Era

The first question apear in  our mind is  "How has it changed since the original version?" Well, the answer is that nearly everything has been changed. Classes, Jobs, Locations and everything else has seen some work done. The questing structure was completely reworked and the game has basically evolved into an entirely new beast. If you picked up the original and were let down, it is highly suggested you give the game a second chance. People who own the original version can simply download a large update for their version of the game to gain access to FFXIV: ARR. If you never played or purchased the original, you can pick up this new title as if it were an entirely new product, because really, it is 96.5% new.

Character & Races

Each race has different stats, allowing them to better play some classes over another. A brief outline can be found below, but for a more thorough explanation, head over to the Races page.

Hyur - The human equivalent, the Hyur are the most balanced of races. They are of average height and their stats don't favor one thing over the other. Players who will be jumping between many classes may want to choose Hyur as your stats will be the most level over all.

Elezen - The Elezen are tall and full of power. Their stats allow them to fill the roles found within Disciples of War very easily. Classes such as Lancer or Marauder are perfect for the Elezen as they are gifted with a very high Strength stat.

Miqo'te - The wonderful feline-esqe people of Eorzea, the Miqo'te have their stats naturally leaning towards Dexterity. This makes them great as Archers and Bards.

Roegadyn - The mountainous people are great as front line tanks. They are of similar height and power to that of the Elezen, but offer stats more designed to absorb damage. With such a high Vitality, the Roegadyn make excellent Gladiators.

Lalafell - These miniature people are short but full of magical power. They make excellent mages of any sort. They also are quite small, so people who decide to play as them will see the world in a much different way than those who choose the tall Roegadyn or Elezen.

Bear in mind, players should note that the stats are not so drastically different that it will make a huge difference in the end. A person who plays a Lalafell damage dealer may only do 1% less damage than that of an Elezen. When picking your character race, you should keep in mind what classes you will play, but in the end, choose the one you like the most!

Classes, Jobs & Disciplines

There are 4 different ones that branch off into the various classes. Disciples of War are your physical damage classes while Disciples of Magic sling spells to damage foes or heal allies. There are two more disciplines, Disciples of the Hand and Disciples of the Land but they cover crafting and will be show further down the page:

There are eight classes and three city-states to choose from:

  •     Gladiator - Ul'dah
  •     Pugilist - Ul'dah
  •     Thaumaturge - Ul'dah

  •     Archer - Gridania
  •     Conjurer - Gridania
  •     Lancer - Gridania

  •     Arcanist - Limsa Lominsa
  •     Marauder - Limsa Lominsa

PRIMAL:

Consider as Guardian/ Summon are terryifying foes that have been called down to Eorzea by the Beastmen. Each of the different Beastmen tribes worship a separate Primal. So far, the confirmed Primals include:

  • Good King Moggle Mog XII
Good King Moggle Mog XII is a primal moogle in Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. It is currently unknown if players will eventually be able to summon him.

  • Ifrit
Ifrit is the Primal of fire and fury. Worshipped by the lizard-like Amalj'aa Beastmen tribe from the deserts of Thanalan, Ifrit is known for his terrible temper. His breathe ignites air while his claws can melt the strongest steel. His attacks are fire based, including the iconic Hellfire attack.

  • Ramuh
Ramuh is the Primal of Lightning, worshiped by the diminutive Sylphs. This old man will strike down anyone trying to interfere with his sacred forest in The Black Shroud. His iconic ability is Judgement Bolt.

  • Garuda
Garuda is the Primal of storms, worshiped by the Ixal Beastmen tribe. Her home is on the blustery mountains of Coerthas, where the Ixal both adore and fear the elegant Primal. Garuda's wrath has been known to erupt without warning, and she uses tornado and cyclone attacks to deal damage. Her main ability is Aerial Blast.

  • Titan
Titan is the Primal of earth, worshiped by the mole-like Kobold Beastmen tribe. While he may be huge and lumbering, Titan is a gentle father to his tunnel-dwelling worshipers. His home is on the serene plains of La Noscea, and those who provoke the anger of the colossus have to deal with his earthquake attacks and special ability, Earth Fury.

  • Leviathan
Leviathan is the primal and lord of all water, worshiped by the aquatic Sahagin Beastmen tribe. He lurks in deep waters, most likely near Limsa Lominsa, and devours those who cross his path.

  • Bahamut
Bahamut is an Elder Primal, thought by some to be the most powerful of the bunch. At the end of the Seventh Umbral Era, Bahamut managed to break free of his prison within the lesser moon, Dalamund. Once freed from captivity, Bahamut laid waste to Eorzea, leaving behind massive destruction and changing the landscape of the world.

  • Odin
Odin is an Elder Primal, a knight in all black. No one knows who first summoned Odin to Eorzea, and he is not worshiped by any single race. He rides his trusty steed, Sleipnir, in battle, but only time will tell who he's going to face off against next. The first battle with Odin, is simply finding him. He spawns randomly inside one of the various Shroud areas. Currently there are an estimated 12 spawn locations across the sections of The Shroud. Players will know when he spawns as the entirety of The Shroud will go dark. The darkness is not the same as nighttime, this darkness has more of a twilight look, with a slight fog also rolling in. Once this occurs, players will know Odin can be found somewhere.

Note: Not only will Primals play a significant role in the story, but players will be able to battle against them for rewards.

Defeating a Primal will allow players to earn special weapons and armor. Here are the sample :

From the review , it is consider as successful MMORPG, on the whole, previews of the game have been positive, and of a notably different tone than those for XIV's original release. IGN's Charles Onyett said "So far it seems like Square’s doing the right things to fix the many mistakes made with Final Fantasy XIV’s original design"
